How to publish your book with Fast Books

How We Make a Fast Book for You

It's easy to self publish your book from manuscript, from your own book that's now out of print, copied from printed sheets, or formatted from files on a computer, from PDF files, etc.

Our new website wildandwoolley.com.au contains all the very latest help for self publishing writers including layout instructions ("What margins should I set?") and full details on all the popular book sizes ("How do I set up my page in Word?").

From Wordprocessed Manuscripts:
Our complete service in self publishing means that we'll design and format your book for you, then provide you with full page proofs (which will include photographs and illustrations) before printing and binding. We accept any type of PC or Mac disk: 3.5" or 5.25" and programs including Wordstar, Word, Ami Pro, or WordPerfect.

Downloaded from Disk:
Bring along your fully-formatted and completely ready-to-print disk and we'll download it to our printing system. This is the cheapest, professional, basic service we provide, especially for self publishers.

Book Sizes

The most attractive, and traditional, dimensions for books are C format (235x153mm) and B format (200x130mm).

Use the members only section of the Wild and Woolley website to format your pages. You'll find it at http://www.wildandwoolley.com.au

Paper and Ink and Binding

For most books, we use acid-free archival quality paper that is specially manufactured in Australia. This paper has good opacity and bulks up well. Our binding facility produces a burst style, perfectly bound book: the binding edge of the book is roughened so that the glue actually works into the fibres of the paper.

The Cost of Publishing

Each book manuscript or project can be produced in a number of ways. Several years ago, 5 member publishers of the Association of American University Presses took the same manuscript called No Time For Houseplants and, independently of one another, created 5 different, unique books. One was a large-format hardcover, one a small paperback, one a "trade" paperback, one spiral bound, and so on.

Because there are so many ways a book can be produced, you will want advice on the best and most economical format for your unique project. For a very reasonable fee we can provide that advice, make suggestions as to format and style, and provide you with a firm quotation on the production of your book.

Meetings to Discuss your Book

Unless you are placing a print order at the same time, there is a fee of $385 for all meetings to discuss your book. This fee applies whether we meet in person, talk on the phone, answer your email enquiries, or use the post.

What to bring (or send in) to a meeting:

- An idea of what you want your book to look like: a book, photocopies of covers, etc.

- A list of questions you want answered
