Lands of Sun and Spice
Ian Turbott
Retired Colonial Administrator and Governor Sir Ian Turbott tells us in
his informal and easy style what it was like to be in charge of the destiny
of the folk of several glamorous tropical British Colonies towards the end
of the Empire.
"Retirement" for Sir Ian meant a complete switch of careers and
characteristically brought advancement in his various new spheres. Here
he sheds much light on modern business management and on university and
general cultural administration.
But throughout all stages of his remarkable career we are brought close
to the character and ideals of a man of the broadest human sympathies and
become infected with his enthusiasm for the contribution of tolerance and
consultation i the field of human relationships.
More than 80 photographs are included: Clockwise, top left: Sir Ian at the
beginning of his diplomatic career, with the Queen in Antigua, with his
wife, Nancy, in Sydney.
